Guidance for Using Interactive Mapping
The map tools are fairly simple to use, but you may find these simplified instructions useful:
In the top left, there are five tabs:
- Tab 1 gives a list of maps available. Click on the underlined theme to select the required mapping.
- Tab 2 gives an address search. Type in an address or postcode. The information you requested will appear in a table. Click on the address and the map will reset to display the property.
- Tab 3 gives a list of towns and villages in West Dorset. Select the 'Locate' button to view the area you want.
- Tab 4 gives an overview map of West Dorset. The area displayed in the large map will be shown on the overview map by a black outline. You can move this box to another area using the hand button, positioned below the overview map. The new location will then be reflected in the large map. Using the pencil button, hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse diagonally over the map to define the map area you wish to be displayed.
- Tab 5 gives a link to the detailed help pages.
Underneath the main map, there are seven tool buttons:
- Button 1 is the zoom in tool. Having selected the button, position the cursor over the map, hold down the left mouse button and drag the mouse diagonally to define the area you wish to view. A smaller area will be displayed at a larger scale.
- Button 2 is the zoom out tool. Having selected the button, click on the map and it will zoom out to a smaller scale map displaying a greater area.
- Button 3 is the panning tool. Having selected the button, hold down the left mouse button and drag the map to reposition as required.
- Button 4 is the information tool. Having selected the button, click on the map and you can see the policies that apply to the selected location. If the returned policy has a 'Written Statement' link then clicking on the link will display the relevant policy statement contained within the Local Plan.
- Button 5 displays a cartographic legend to accompany the map.
- Button 6 provides an address search.
- Button 7 select the button to display the entire map.
